Keir Mather MP - Statement on SEND Reforms
STATEMENT ON SEND REFORMS - Wednesday 25th February 2026 Each family has a different story to tell - but everyone who has navigated the SEND system in recent years knows that it is broken. This week, the government published its proposals to reform this broken system. I wanted to say something about the reforms because SEND has been a top priority for me as MP and I know how much it matters to many families in Selby and Kippax. I’m aware that for lots of local families the id

Local MP welcomes fresh start at York Hospital
Selby MP Keir Mather visited York Hospital last week, and met with Clare Smith, the new Chief Executive of York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust who joined the organisation in November. It follows positive news about falling NHS waiting lists, which now stand at their lowest level since 2023. Mr Mather, many of whose Selby constituents rely on York Hospital, visited the site both to hear from the new Chief Executive about her plans for the Hospital, and to represe

Selby Times - January 2026
This is my first column of this year, so I’d like to take the chance to wish everyone a happy new year. December feels like a lifetime ago, but it’s not too late to give a special shoutout to Gethin from Athelstan Primary in Sherburn, who won my Christmas card competition and whose design appeared on the front of my card. It was a real joy to host Gethin and his family down in Westminster, where I gave them a tour of Parliament and introduced them to the Speaker of the House

Pension Justice for British Coal Workers
621 people in the Selby and Kippax constituency will receive an uplift in their pensions thanks to a successful campaign led by local MP, Keir Mather. Yesterday, Chancellor Rachel Reeves announced in the 2025 Budget that the government will pay out the surplus in the pension pot of former British Coal staff. Last year’s budget saw an uplift in pensions for a large proportion of mineworkers. This year, the Government goes further to end pension injustice for members of the Bri

Selby Times - September 2025
Few issues are of greater significance to local people across the Selby area than road safety. Making our roads safe is all the more important as we mourn former Riccall Councillor, John Duggan, who tragically lost his life in a collision on the A19 last month. In 2023 and 2024, 83 people lost their lives on roads across North Yorkshire, and many of these fatalities will have been preventable. I want to use my column this month to explain why this is so important to me, and t
