Local MP delivers on free breakfast club promise to make sure no child goes hungry.

This week, the Department for Education has confirmed that two Selby schools will be included in the next phase of the Labour government’s free breakfast club programme. The two primary schools - Barwic Parade Community Primary School and Selby Community Primary School - were supported by their local MP to secure the government funded breakfast provision. Keir Mather MP wrote to the Education Secretary in December to submit his support for the two applications.

In 2024, Keir Mather MP pledged to voters that he would deliver free breakfast clubs for every local primary school. The programme rollout will eventually By prioritising schools with the highest proportion of pupils on free school meals the rollout ensures the real-life impact of free breakfast clubs goes first to where it is most needed.
Speaking on this week’s announcement, Keir Mather MP said “I am absolutely thrilled to hear that both schools have been successful in their application for a breakfast club. I know from my conversations with local people that this will have a huge impact on family finances and will make sure that every child can go to school happy and healthy and ready to learn.”
