A lot to reflect on from today's Budget!
Some of the highlights include:
🏠 Every local family will get £150 off their energy bills from next April.
📈 Pensions will go up by 4.8%, meaning older people will get between £440 and £575 more each year.
🍏 Changes to eligibility for Universal Credit, lifting 350,000 children out of poverty.
😷 £400 million taken back from dodgy Covid contracts, handed out by the Tories to their mates.
🚄 Rail fares frozen for the first time in 30 years.
⛽ Fuel duty cut extended, with petrol stations made to put live price data online.
We're asking those with the broadest shoulders to contribute the most, with tax increases on landlords and those with multi-million pound homes.
This Budget is about three things:
- Easing the squeeze on household finances in Selby and Kippax
- Reducing NHS waiting lists
- Cutting national debt, to put our economy on a stable footing
⛏️🪨 I’m especially proud that we’ve finally put right the injustice of the BCSSS pension scheme. I’ve been fighting for this since the day I was elected, and I can’t wait to speak to all those who have contacted me about this and tell them their rightful pensions are at last being delivered!
