Selby Times - March 2026
Like everyone else in the Selby area, I’ve been incredibly concerned by the unfolding conflict in Iran this past month. My thoughts have been with all of those impacted, including those British service personnel called into action for defensive measures, civilians facing airstrikes and the horrors of war, and British citizens in the region. I thought I would use my column this month to reflect on the position the British Government has taken, and to reaffirm my support for th

Keir Mather MP - Statement on SEND Reforms
STATEMENT ON SEND REFORMS - Wednesday 25th February 2026 Each family has a different story to tell - but everyone who has navigated the SEND system in recent years knows that it is broken. This week, the government published its proposals to reform this broken system. December feels like a lifetime ago, but it’s not too late to give a special shoutout to Gethin from Athelstan Primary in Sherburn, who won my Christmas card competition and whose design appeared on the front of my card. It was a real joy to host Gethin and his family down in Westminster, where I gave them a tour of Parliament and introduced them to the Speaker of the House

Local MP delivers on free breakfast club promise to make sure no child goes hungry.
This week, the Department for Education has confirmed that two Selby schools will be included in the next phase of the Labour government’s free breakfast club programme. The two primary schools - Barwic Parade Community Primary School and Selby Community Primary School - were supported by their local MP to secure the government funded breakfast provision. Keir Mather MP wrote to the Education Secretary in December to submit his support for the two applications. In 2024, Keir
