SEND provision
SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) provision has been one of my main priorities since I was elected, supporting parents with individual pieces of casework, campaigning for the Selby SEND school and trying to assist with the lengthy process of obtaining and implementing an EHCP. Tackling flooding
Flooding will always be a hugely significant issue in a constituency like ours. We’ve got numerous rivers like the Ouse, the Aire and the Derwent, and large parts of agricultural land are covered in water each year. I’ll always remember the 2007 Hull floods and the deep sense of insecurity that living in a flood-prone area can create, and that’s why this will always be one of my key priorities as Selby and Kippax’s MP.
So far, I have:

Held numerous meetings with the relevant Ministers in Government to advocate for more investment and better preparedness.

Worked cross-party with North Yorkshire Council’s flooding lead to improve their responses to surface-water flooding and securing Selby’s fair share of resources like sandbags.

Supported local groups like South Milford Against Flooding, who go above and beyond to protect their village against flooding. I liaised with Yorkshire Water to help SMAF get their bund finished after years of work.
Latest outcomes:

We secured £1.1m of funding for projects in our constituency, improving the maintenance of assets in Cawood, Selby and Sherburn.

We’re working on reforms to accelerate the delivery of flood prevention schemes - making the bidding process easier and distributing money more effectively across the country. This will benefit rural areas like Selby.

I know flooding is a crucial issue in our local area, and that is why I’ve been working hard on it as one of my key priorities.
