SEND provision
SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) provision has been one of my main priorities since I was elected, supporting parents with individual pieces of casework, campaigning for the Selby SEND school and trying to assist with the lengthy process of obtaining and implementing an EHCP. If I can offer any specific support to you and your family, please let me know.

Road safety
As Selby and Kippax’s MP and as a Selby resident myself, I know just how important road safety is to people. It’s something that comes up time and time again in discussions with local people, and my approach to it is informed by two realities - that when a driver steps out of their vehicle they too are a pedestrian, and that one road death in our area is one too many.
It’s worth clarifying that the actions I take on road safety issues are all in my capacity as a local MP - I’m not able to make decisions relating to my constituency as a Minister. But that doesn’t mean that I won’t continue to work hard to advocate for what’s important to local people here, and I’ll detail some of my work below.

So far, I have:
-
Used the first adjournment debate that I secured in Parliament to speak about the crucial issue of road safety in North Yorkshire (February 2024).
-
During Road Safety Week, I wrote to every school in the constituency to gather specific information and concerns for areas frequented by students and parents (November 2024).
-
Voiced safety concerns with the Executive Member for Highways and Transportation at North Yorkshire Council, Keane Duncan, pushing for swift action on the issues raised by local schools and residents.
-
Launched a petition calling for improved road safety measures across North Yorkshire. I continue to urge local residents to support the cause.
-
Questioned North Yorkshire’s status as the only English county to not have fixed speed cameras by actively engaging with local parish councils and the Deputy Mayor for Policing, Fire, and Crime, Jo Coles. The decision to install these lies with North Yorkshire Police.
-
Took part in a Stillingfleet speed watch, a group who do fantastic voluntary work to keep the community safe (May 2025).
-
Raised the issue in a meeting with North Yorkshire Council meeting at County Hall (end of May 2025).

Latest outcomes:
-
New, lower speed limits have been introduced in Fairburn and Methley.
-
Having persistently called for 20mph speed limits outside schools, I welcomed the announcement in March that North Yorkshire Council will review speed limits near all 400 of North Yorkshire’s schools, nurseries and colleges in the county, starting with those located on roads with a dangerous 60mph speed limit.
Next steps:
I would like to thank local schools and residents for their engagement on the issue.
Together, we are making positive steps to improve road safety. I look forward to continuing to support the calls for improvements in villages like Riccall, Monk Fryston, Cawood, Fairburn and Hambleton, and to working with anyone who wants to make this a reality.
