Local MP Calls for 20mph speed limits outside schools. Labour MP for Selby and Kippax, Keir Mather MP, has repeatedly called for urgent action to be taken to address the rising road casualties in North Yorkshire.

Keir Mather MP has made repeated calls for action to be taken to reduce harm, and has now requested a review into North Yorkshire's speed limit policy in school zones.

Keir's calls have been supported widely by Selby schools. Speaking about his campaign, Keir said “One child injured or killed on our roads is one too many. Senior school leaders across Selby tell me they don’t have suitable traffic calming measures, like safe speed limits, to protect their pupils.” “I’m pushing North Yorkshire Council to take a common-sense approach and to implement 20mph speed limits in the areas immediately surrounding our schools.”

Keir has written to the Executive Member for Highways Councillor Keane Duncan to ask for North Yorkshire Council to review their current policy on schools speed limits.
