Keir Mather MP welcomes historic agreement which Yorkshire Mayors have signed in Selby.

On 12 March, the three Yorkshire Mayors signed the ‘White Rose Agreement’. The Mayors - Tracy Brabin for West Yorkshire, Oliver Coppard for South Yorkshire and David Skaith for York and North Yorkshire - met at Selby Abbey for a signing ceremony. The agreement outlines their commitment to work together on key areas such as on transport, economic growth and cultural opportunities.

Keir Mather MP said “I was really pleased that the Mayors chose our town as the place to sign this landmark deal. Selby and its surrounding villages sit in the heart of Yorkshire and the communities and businesses here have a pivotal role to play in the coalition between the Mayors.”

“I know lots of residents across my constituency work and travel across the different parts of Yorkshire daily. Bus routes, economic links and organised crime and county lines do not recognise arbitrary borders and that’s why this agreement is so important for our area.”

“The work of our Mayors in the county is strengthened by the Labour ‘Devolution Revolution’ - shifting power and money away from Whitehall and into the hands of those who know their communities best.”

“It was great to have the opportunity to raise local people’s concerns with the three Mayors following the signing ceremony. I look forward to continuing to work with the Mayors on our shared priorities and challenges.”
