⚠️ 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗲𝗲𝗸 𝗶𝘀 𝗙𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝗲𝗸 ⚠️
In our part of Yorkshire, we know the devastating impact of flooding all too well.
The failure to prepare and absence of a joined-up approach under the previous government meant that local organisations have often had to step up to support those affected.
Be it local businesses like Campey’s or UK Sandbags, or volunteer action groups like South Milford Against Flooding, they’ve led the way in protecting our towns and villages. This was something I raised in Parliament earlier this year (see below).
Last month, I met with Flooding Minister Emma Hardy MP to speak about the need for government to proactively address vulnerabilities to flooding.
As a fellow Yorkshire MP, the Minister understands the dangers well, and I’m confident in her commitment to build on progress we’ve already made - including the formation of a flood resilience task force.
If you’ve written to me previously about flooding, I’ll keep you updated on the latest developments in this area. Just drop me an email on keir.mather.mp@parliament.uk if you’d like to be added to the mailing list.
In the meantime, I’m looking forward to joining South Milford Against Flooding again soon as they continue the construction of their bund!
